Highlights of the International Teaching Cooperation Programs:

Experimental Program of Advanced Financial Teaching

     

        One of the important reform measures taken by the School of Finance of RUC is the Experimental Program of Advanced Finance Teaching. It is a very important education reform measure as it is for the first time to introduce professors from top foreign universities to the program. Students do their undergraduate and graduate study continuously through bilingual education with innovative course structure. The plan aims at selecting a number of excellent students every year, while inviting prominent professors at home and abroad to teach the students in English. The program focuses on training the students to have an international perspective and getting familiar with the modern finance theory and practices.
        The significance of the program lies in the fact that it will speed up reforming the School of Finance. It is hoped that through this program, it will internationalize RUC and elevate the international reputation of the School of Finance and RUC.
        The Experimental Program was launched in April, 2002. The first group of students has successfully completed the courses, and the program has been approved by the government authorities.

 

Highlights of the International Teaching Cooperation Programs:

RUC-Columbia University "Program in Economic and Financial Policy Manangement "(PEFPM)

 

        The signing ceremony of "PEFPM program between RUC and Columbia University" is held in RUC on May 25th,2002 . The program, with the complete title of the "Program in Economic and Financial Policy Management" is the product of cooperation between the School of Finance in RUC and the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. In 1995, Prof. Mundell made a suggestion to Prof. HuangDa of training Chinese economists. Under the instructions of President Ji Baocheng of RUC, Prof. Chen Yulu, Dean of the School of Finance reached an agreement with Prof. Francisco, the Former PEPM Director and Dr. Chen Hongyi, the Assistant to Prof. Mundell to integrate RUC program to the PEPM program of Columbia University. With the approval of both universities, the agreement of cooperation for "Program in Economic and Financial Policy Management" was signed.
        Under the agreement, the "Program in Economic and Financial Policy Management " is to invite professor from both the Columbia University and RUC. Courses are designed in accordance with the terms of PEFPM program at the Columbia University. The whole plan aims to train the senior talents with an international perspective and familiarize themselves with modern financial theory and practices of finance. The qualified graduates will be granted both the master in economics (finance major) from RUC and MPA from Columbia University.
        After China's entry into WTO, policy makers in the government now is confronted with new challenges, requiring financial experts with thorough understanding of the realities in China coupled with an international perspective. The program is an innovation in response to the call of the time and a key step for RUC on its way of becoming the first rate university in the world.
        A program management office, headed by Prof. Chen Yulu and Prof. Zhao Xijun, was set up to coordinate the operation of the program. Prof. Mundell together with Prof. Huang Da and Prof. Zhang Zhixiang, former IMF Direct have agreed to act as advisors. We are confident that this program will train a number of people to become future policy makers in China and be an example for Sino-U.S. cooperation in higher learning.
